Youth Centre

There is a residential Youth Centre attached to the church, which can be hired throughout the year by groups of up to 24. Groups are encouraged to participate in the Sunday services, but this is purely optional. There is a large downstairs dining/recreation room, fully equipped kitchen and shower/toilet block. Upstairs is the sleeping accommodation - a maximum of 26 in four rooms with 2, 7, 8 and 9 bunk beds. Over the years a lot of work and money has been spent making sure these premises are suitable for a variety of groups to stay at very competitive rates. If you are interested in knowing more about this facility then please contact the Warden.

History

Methodism made its appearance in Braithwaite in the mid-1830s, services being regularly held there in 1835. In 1850 the worshippers moved from meeting in the home of John Bailiff to a new chapel, which had cost them £70.

In 1876 the chapel was completely rebuilt to become the present building, at a cost of £250. In the 1980s the Chapel part of the premises was converted to a residential centre specially for young people, and the Sunday School part was made into a smaller chapel. The present membership of the church is 6.
