History

Wesleyans were meeting in Brigham as early as 1828 when there were 4 members. This cause had a chequered history at that time with membership disappearing briefly twice in the 1840s and never having more than 11 members before they built a small chapel in 1856. By 1880 the premises were too small for the then expanding numbers and a new chapel was built and opened on May 9th 1883. The two buildings still exist, the earlier now being a well-used hall.

Membership hit a low ebb in 1896 with only 3 members, but quickly recovered.

Discussions are ongoing about work to be done on the worship area. The previous organ in the church was originally used at the New Street Church in Cockermouth, but since a major fault occurred this was recently removed.

The chapel has just been painted - it looks quite different and much smarter.

Coffee is served after all Sunday services.

The present membership of the church is 19.
