Grange, Keswick, Cumbria, CA12 5UQ
The village of Grange lies about a mile south of Derwentwater. The Methodist Church is situated beside the River Derwent, grid reference NY253175.
Sunday services at 11.00am
All the services are shared in alternate venues on a twice-monthly basis with the village Anglican Church (NY252175).
The church, open all year round for visitors, is popular for weddings.
The Wesleyans at Grange had to wait a long time before they had a building of their own. The cause began in 1847, but the chapel, still used, was only built in 1894. It comprises only one room, with a tiny porch.
The chapel is beautifully located beside the River Derwent as it flows along towards Keswick. Many walkers and other visitors are glad for its refuge on a wet day. Some of these so fall in love with the setting that they choose to get married here.
There has been a lot of co-operation in the village with the local Anglican Church. All year round the two congregations share 2 services every month, enriching both churches and their local community. Where this co-operation will lead no-one is sure, but forward seems to be the only direction!
The present membership of the church is 8, though many more usually meet, especially in the summer when visitors join the congregation.
