Introducing Mary Platt Pre-school

This is a popular and long established group, which has been held at the Lorton Street Methodist Church for over forty years. The Pre-school welcomes all children from 2 years up to the time they join the reception class at school.

There are free places available for 3 and 4 year olds under the Nursery Grant scheme.

There are about twenty children attending each session along with four members of staff, resulting in a high level of individual attention for each child.

The group complies with all Ofsted requirements with regard to staff qualifications, and staff regularly attend training courses to further their skills. Click here for the most recent Ofsted inspection.

The fact that all the staff are parents themselves, most having had their own children in this setting, contributes to the caring and understanding atmosphere within the group.

The Curriculum

The Pre-school sessions are carefully structured, following weekly topics to provide a stimulating curriculum leading towards the fulfillment of the Early Learning Goals.

The children have a choice from a wide range of activities such as sand, water, role-play, arts and crafts, construction toys, books, jigsaws and games.

The staff also provide opportunities for baking, music and movement, using simple tools, practising pre-reading and writing skills and enjoying play on the large apparatus.
